S. Pony Hill

Steven Pony Hill, prominent researcher of Southeastern Native American history, author, songwriter, and screenwriter. Born in February 1971 in Marianna, Florida, his father was of Irish descent and his mother was born into a mixed-blood Native American community centered near Blountstown, Florida. Hill's maternal uncle, Billie 'Buck' Bryant, was involved in the 1972 takeover of the Bureau of Indian Affairs building in Washington, D.C. Hill served as the chairman of the Apalachicola River Community of Indians Tribal Organization, a rural Indian community center based in Blountstown, Florida, from 2010 to 2021 as well as administrator for the website indianancestry101.com.

S. Pony Hill is the author of numerous books including Patriot Chiefs and Loyal Braves, Strangers In Their Own Land: State recognized Tribes of South Carolina, The Red Road: Language, Legends, and Lifeways of the Cheraw, Keyauwee, Pee Dee, Santee, and Wateree, Sumter's 'Turks', A Wandering Tribe: Dispersal of the Catawba Nation 1800 to 1900, and Horizon - Broken Sky.
